Salehe Bembury surely has a lot on his plate with all the demands that come with the role of Senior Director of Sneakers and Men’s Footwear at Versace, and yet the creative is making way for a joint effort with New Balance. Though Bembury’s Instagram reveal consisted only of co-branded text on washed-out denim, his Instagram Story showcased the designer strolling around New Balance HQ in a pair of PRJ 3.0 sneakers.
That Bembury has an innate respect for classic sneakers is no surprise — the former YEEZY designer introduced an Apple Computers-indebted sneaker at Versace within the past year, though perhaps his most famous creation for the Italian luxury house to date is the Chain Reaction. “I challenged myself to create something that hadn’t been seen in the market before, and I believe I accomplished that,” Bembury told HYPEBEAST. “Successful design evokes both positive and negative emotions, and it’s been great to see the dialogue it has created.”
Expect more information on Bembury’s New Balance collaboration to emerge next year. “2020, stay tuned,” he told HYPEBEAST.
The PRJ 3.0 sneaker recently received a new colorway, granting the recycled silhouette more bold hits of color.
