The gang of Floribama Shore is returning and big changes are afoot! Season 3 begins as the group moves from their beloved Panama City Beach (PCB) to the unchartered territory of St. Petersburg for another summer of fun and harmless debauchery. Three cast members are starting off the season in serious relationships (Kortni, Aimee and Gus), so it is obvious that our favorite Southerners are not showing any signs of uncomplicating their lives.
But that’s why we love them! Reeling from one misadventure to another— think massive cookouts, elaborate pranks, and nights of hard partying that they sure as hell don’t remember—the cast of Floribama Shore has only grown closer over the years and even more appealing to viewers who can’t help but root for them to emerge alive and well from their forays into the wild Florida party scene. Stars Nilsa Prowant, Gus Smyrnios and Codi Butts dropped by to dish on the newest season, spill the behind-the-scenes goods on that epic cake fight, and salivate over their favorite pizza chain (Hungry Howie’s).
DECIDER: Were you hesitant to make the move from PCB to St. Pete for this summer?
Nilsa Prowant: For me, I was nervous because I didn’t want the PCB locals to think that we were just up and leaving because of the natural disaster, Hurricane Michael. PCB is always going to be the show’s first home, and it’s actually my home as well. And so, I was nervous about on that aspect of the move, but I was also excited to go somewhere new.
Gus Smyrnios: It was harder for Nilsa to leave, but for the rest of us, we wanted a change of scenery. The same locals were at the same bars every time we went out in Panama City and it was just getting us in trouble.
Codi Butts: I had never been to Tampa or St. Pete area before, so I was really excited for something new.
You guys have been roommates from the past 3 summers. Have the dynamics in the house changed at all?
Gus: Hugely. Some people came into the house as best friends, and left hating each other and then, other people came into the house hating each other and left being best friends.
Nilsa: And the fights always seem to happen with the people that you never thought would butt heads. As you saw, Candace and I fought over things that had nothing to do with either of us. I don’t know why we were mad at each other.
You mention the fight you got into with Candace. Is it easy to steer clear of the drama in the house?
Nilsa: Everyone stirs the drama.
Gus: [laughs] Yeah, we like to mix it up a little bit.
Codi: When it’s a fight between the girls, we grab a drink and we just kind of laugh at it honestly. Yeah. We kind of sit back and watch or we’ll be like, “Hmm. Let’s stir it up a little bit.”
So, Codi do you think you deserved the prank where they put mayo and French vanilla creamer on your pizza?
Gus: Oh, I got your ass.
Codi: Maybe! When I was watching that segment, I was like, “Oh my God. That’s so funny.” I laughed my butt off.
Any fans of the show know that pizza is very important to you guys. How was the pizza scene in St. Pete?
Gus: There’s never a lack of pizza.
Nilsa: Pizza is not hard to find, so I’m like, “Okay. I could get used to this place.”
What’s your favorite pizza place?
Nilsa: Hungry Howie’s. It has stuffed crust and you can get the crust flavored. Plus the 3 cheeser Howie bread! It’s just amazing. Papa John’s is my new favorite outside of Hungry Howie’s because when I was ranting on Twitter about Pizza Hut this one time—don’t get me started about that—Papa John’s was all, “Oh, Nilsa, we’ll send you a free pizza. Don’t worry about Pizza Hut.”
Gus: Papa John’s tried to send us free pizza for the premiere too.
After pizza, what’s the next best drunk food?
Codi: We eat a lot of chicken wings.
Nilsa: Burgers. Any grilled food.
Cake played a major role in a food fight at Aimee’s anger management graduation party. Was it the best idea for Kirk to slam Aimee’s face in the cake?
Nilsa: Well, I’m the one that gave him the idea!
Gus: I didn’t think he was going to do it like that. I thought it was going to be more playful.
Codi: I loved it. I thought it was funny. If he hadn’t had done it, then I would have. I didn’t realize she was going to pick up the whole cake and throw it at us.
Gus: Yeah! I was looking forward to eating that shit, man. It was so messy.
Codi: Icing was everywhere.
Nilsa: That’s how real our show is. We had the cake fight and we’re thinking, “All right. We’ll clean up and go to the bar and production will take care of the house. They’ll clean it up.” And no, they didn’t!
Gus: It took us three or four hours to clean the sticky mess, and even then, we didn’t get it all.
Codi: Even after the first few weeks, we were like, “Oh my God. Here’s some cake.”
Nilsa: There’s cake here. There’s cake in the plants. There’s cake on the ceiling. There’s cake on the phone.
Is that the messiest fight we’ll see this season?
Gus: Absolutely not. Not even close.
Codi: It gets so much worse.
Nilsa: Have you ever seen an all-out brawl in a sushi restaurant?
Nilsa: Stay tuned!
And I know Codi and Gus get into a big fight…
Codi: I didn’t realize that by calling Gus’ ex-girlfriend a bitch that we would be best friends after that.
Gus: Codi and I never even had an argument until that night. Obviously, there was a lot of alcohol involved.
Codi: I didn’t realize that he was going to snap like that, and I was like, “Oh, shit.”
Gus: I was really going through it. My past relationship was very stressful to me. Plus, I’m extremely protective of the people close to me, and she was the closest at the time. So, I just felt disrespected to the fullest when he came at me that way. I definitely overreacted, but it was the heat of the moment.
Codi: And now we’re best friends!
Is it hard to watch these fights from months ago when you’ve moved past them in present time?
Gus: Once you see it back on television, your emotions go back to right when it happened.
Nilsa: Rewatching is the hardest part.
Gus: I’ll watch it and I’ll feel my blood starting to boil. And then I grab my phone and start coming after them, but we always squash it.
Codi: It’s like that for me, but there’s some things that I didn’t remember happening and then, I get to see it and it’s like, “Oh, shit. That happened? That’s hilarious.”
Nilsa: Yeah. I can’t wait to see when I go to jail because I don’t really remember all the details of that night.
Codi: [laughs] It’ll be really funny, I promise you.
Gus: [laughs] I’m going to get a kick out of that one too.
But you made it through!
Nilsa: I got priors, but you know what? It made me stronger than ever.
