Several sites are currently reporting that Huawei has recently filed a patent to the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO). The patent is reportedly for a foldable phone with a flexible display that vertically folds similar to the new Motorola Razr 2019. If the recent claims are valid, next Huawei foldable smartphone will feature an edge to edge screened device with a triple camera.
Just recently, Motorola launched its refreshed Motorola Razr, its comeback to the smartphone industry after a few years of absence. The form factor of this latest foldable phone is unlike that of the Samsung Galaxy Fold or that of Huawei Mate X. Based on the recent patent filing, it appears that we might be seeing another brand releasing a foldable phone with almost the same form factor.
A Xiaomi patent was recently spotted revealing the same tech and design as the Motorola Razr 2019. It appears that Xiaomi is not alone in this goal as Huawei recently files a patent for a foldable phone similar to the design of Motorola Razr 2019. The approval was given by the WIPO and was filed by Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd.
The patent was published under the Hague Bulletin number 46/2019. The patent reveals a phone with a foldable design that is more compact and pocketable. However, unlike the Motorola Razr 2019, it only has a single foldable display and without any external display.
Interestingly, a small portion of the display stays exposed when the device is totally folded. Perhaps this serves as an external display for performing and viewing quick functions. Additionally, the design shows a triple camera located on the back portion of the smartphone with a dual-LED flash.

There is no visible indicator that the flexible display contains any camera sensor. Based on the patent, there are buttons located on the right side of the device. It is worth noting that while Huawei patents this particular design, it does not mean that it will soon be released in the market. Tech giants like Huawei have a habit of filing patents to secure their concepts and design, and sometimes these patents were not developed into actual products.
Meanwhile, Huawei Mate X was recently launched in China, and reports claim that most stores have already sold out all their available units.
