The Below Deck panel at BravoCon was almost as exciting as an episode of the Bravo series – and that’s saying a lot considering all that’s happened already this season! I moderated the panel with Captain Lee, Kate Chastain and Chef Ben Robinson today in the Grand Ballroom of The Manhattan Center, where we learned even more about the BD OGs as we walked through the seven seasons of the show.
While each of them named their first seasons on the show (Season 1 for the guys, Season 2 for our favorite chief stew) as their favorites, it was Chef Ben who copped to a regret we can’t agree with: that time he showed off his buns while walking down the dock.
Captain Lee named The Tuohys and Steve aka The Foam Guy as his favorite charter guests across all seven seasons of the show, and Kate admitted “I love her!” of this season’s wackiest guest so far, Brandy, who was not just drunk nearly the whole time but also, “she was wearing so many diamond bracelets.”
As far as Kate’s least favorite yachties? That one goes to Rocky and Leon from Season 3. Kate brought up Rocky Dakota wearing her mermaid tail and jumping off the boat, saying that was “all very weird.” And when asked where she even kept the mermaid tail while on the yacht, Kate said, “Our cabins were so small, that’s a lot of real estate. She loved that tail.”
Another Below Deck fun fact: the show didn’t initially have cameras in the laundry room, but once Rocky and Eddie Lucas started their rendezvous, the cameras were implemented. “It explains why we have no laundry getting done,” Kate quipped.
About last night…I had the honor and privilege of doing a demonstration of some #brainhealth food at @sethrogen @laurenmillerrogen and @dmille2306’s awareness and fundraising event for @hilarityforcharity. We talked about foods rich in brain-boosting Omega3’s; I demo’d a salmon sashimi with avocado purée, flaxseed chip, and salmon roe. Seth and @keeganmichaelkey led a meditation – which is such a great way to reduce stress and @boyziimen stopped by for an acoustic performance. Awesome night, wonderful people, all raising awareness that #alzheimers prevention starts when you’re young and you need to take care of your body AND your brain in your 20s, 30s, and 40s. I’ll put a link in my bio to their site and research. Check it out my lovelies. #alzheimerssucks #alzheimersawareness #brainhealth #brainfood #omega3s #cheflife #belowdeckmed #belowdeck @bravotv #chefben #privatechef

Chef Ben filled us in on his catering company, including the upcoming jobs that want him so bad they’re flying him private, and his recent gig with Seth Rogen, where he catered a Hilarity for Charity event at a swanky Tribeca loft, and even enjoyed a meditation led by Rogen himself.

In other highlights from the show, Captain Lee joked, “I had my first good night’s sleep” after resolving his Twitter feud with Jax Taylor of Vanderpump Rules, and Kate filled us in on all the details from visiting Chrissy Teigen’s house with a handful of fellow Bravolebrities. Of course she gravitated to Patricia Altschul from Southern Charm, and also said Kyle Richards from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills was very nice, even though Kate isn’t sure if her Twitter beef with Teddi Mellencamp is quite over, but promises she’s taking accountability for her own tweets.

Kate also dished on her new friendship with RHONY‘s Tinsley Mortimer, Ben shed light on why he hates making breakfast (and joked he hasn’t eaten the most important meal of the day since he was about six!), and Captain Lee told us about deckhand Connie Arias from Season 3 and what a “sense of humor and great work ethic” she has — including the time Connie sewed another deckhand’s shorts shut and put toothpaste in deck shoes! Oh, and you want a real surprise? Kate had only positive things to say about Jen Howell the stew from Season 5, admitting, “she wasn’t the best yachtie but she was good for morale. She was just so funny, she’s like Dory from Finding Nemo.”
Of course we can always count on Kate to keep it real, and when asked about the end of her friendship with Below Deck Mediterranean chief stew Hannah Ferrier, Kate said it was based on Hannah talking behind her back about things such as salary and even going as her guest to Watch What Happens Live. When Kate reached out to clear the air? Hannah left her on read. Ouch!
