Almost after a decade of development, Dwayne Johnson’s “Black Adam” has finally gotten a release date.
The 47-year-old actor took to Instagram to announce that he will be joining the DC Universe as the fictional supervillain “Black Adam.” In his post, he also revealed that the standalone movie will be releasing on Dec. 22, 2021, which puts it just 4 days after “Avatar 2’s” Dec. 17, 2021 release date.
The “Ballers” star posted concept art of himself in the Black Adam costume and gave a sneak peek to his fans as to what he could look like in the movie. Alongside the snap, Johnson wrote how he always dreamt of becoming a superhero while growing up and absolutely loved “Superman.” But later he realized that the Man of Steel was the hero that he could never be.
Johnson further stated that he was too rebellious, too resistant to convention and authority. He also admitted that such traits did not make him a hero. “Despite my troubles, I was still a good kid with a good heart – I just liked to do things my way,” Johnson explained.
According to him, Black Adam is blessed with magic and with the powers equal to Superman, but the only difference between the two is that Adam doesn’t toe the mark or walk the line.
The “Rampage” star concluded the post by confessing that his childhood superhero dreams have come true and he is grateful to the bone that he and his fans will go on this journey together.
The movie is being directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, who is also working with Johnson in Disney’s forthcoming movie “Jungle Cruise.” The film will serve as a spinoff of “Shazam!” that opened in April this year.
It would be interesting to see how “Black Adam” will be able to cope with stiff competition from James Cameron’s sequel to the second highest-grossing movie of all time.
In related news, the esteemed actor is busy these days promoting his upcoming film “Jumanji: The Next Level.” The sequel to the 2017’s hit movie “Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle” will see the actor reprising the role of Spencer alongside Karen Gillan, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Nick Jonas.
The movie is all set to hit theaters on Dec. 13, 2019.
