A family of cockroaches was found living inside a man’s head in China after he experienced sharp pain in his ear.
When the man, identified only as Lv, reportedly asked his family members to check inside his ear to see what was causing him the “scratching discomfort”, they were shocked to spot a large cockroach.
The 24-year-old was immediately taken to the Sanhe Hospital in the city of Huizhou, where his doctor found more than 10 cockroach babies inside his right ear canal, who “were already running around.”
“He said his ear hurt a lot, like something was scratching or crawling inside,” ear, nose and throat specialist Zhong Yijin told 7 News. “It was causing him a lot of discomfort.”
The doctor removed the tiny insects one by one with the help of a tweezer, before removing the mother cockroach. According to the hospital, Lv was prescribed an ointment and discharged on the same day.
It is, however, unclear how long the insect family had been living inside his ear.
The hospital’s head of ENT, Li Jinyuan told local media that Mr.Lv had a habit of leaving unfinished packets of food near his bed, attracting insects and cockroaches.
7 News quoted Deputy Head of ENT Jiang Tengxiang advising, “Household hygiene helps to prevent the appearance and spread of cockroaches.”
He added how disinfecting drains and sewers along with using mosquito nets on windows stops insects from flying or crawling inside our nose and ears.
In a similar incident last year, a woman in Florida was shocked to find that she had been living with a cockroach in her ear for nine full days.
