Kate Middleton put a modern twist on Princess Diana’s precious jewels.
The Duchess of Cambridge, 37, attended the launch of the National Emergencies Trust on Thursday wearing sapphire from head to toe — including on her ears. She chose a blue dress by favorite designer Emilia Wickstead accessorized with a poppy-shaped brooch, black Jimmy Choo pumps and a matching Aspinal of London clutch ($360), along with a pair of her late mother-in-law’s earrings.
Prince William gifted his wife with the ocean-blue bling in 2011, the year they married. Princess Di originally wore the diamond-encircled sapphires as simple studs, and later added a matching stone cluster to make them two-tiered.
The earrings were then remodeled for Middleton, who wears them as single drops. They perfectly match her engagement ring from Prince William, which also belonged to his mother.
The Duchess of Cambridge wasn’t the only royal who opted for a navy outfit on Thursday; her sister-in-law Meghan Markle made a surprise appearance at the Field of Remembrance service at Westminster Abbey wearing the same shade.
Markle, 38, chose a bouclé alpaca wrap coat by Sentaler ($1,795) and a matching Philip Treacy velvet veiled beret, along with black knee-high boots by Tamara Mellon ($795) and a Remembrance Poppy like Middleton’s.
