Are Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon blaming each other for some of the bad reviews The Morning Show has received? That’s the bogus premise in one of this week’s tabloids. Gossip Cop has learned it’s nonsense.
Aniston and Witherspoon’s new Apple TV+ series has received mixed reviews from critics, with a few major publications – including the New York Times – panning the show. According to OK!, the critical reception has caused a rift between the co-stars and co-producers, who are taking it out on each other. “The harsh criticism made them cringe,” an alleged insider tells the outlet. “They were both incredibly embarrassed and upset.”
The supposed source continues, “Jen and Reese are playing the blame game. Jen isn’t happy with a lot of the decisions Reese made early on, and she’s kicking herself for not speaking up. She also feels like Reese was so busy with other projects that she didn’t give their show enough attention.”
This same “insider” also claims to know how Witherspoon feels about the situation, saying the actress is telling people “she’s made a mistake by pairing up with Jen, and that she should’ve chosen someone more critically acclaimed, like Nicole Kidman.” The seemingly phony tipster adds, “The bottom line is that neither one of them had any idea this would turn out so badly, and they both regret getting involved.”
The tabloid’s story is a total fabrication. For starters, although The Morning Show did receive some negative reviews, there are several highly-regarded publications recommending the show. The Apple TV+ series got positive write-ups from the Los Angeles Times, Vanity Fair, Entertainment Weekly, the Chicago Sun Times, Time Magazine and New York Magazine, just to name a few.
Furthermore, despite what some critics are saying, The Morning Show has received an overwhelmingly positive response from audiences. The series has a 95 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, meaning the show is connecting with the public in a major way. Meanwhile, the Apple TV+ series has already been renewed for a second season.
It should also be stressed, Aniston and Witherspoon have had nothing but praise for each other while promoting their new series. Just this week, while promoting the series in the UK, both actresses said the process of both co-starring on the show and producing it together was “so fulfilling.” The two stars also noted that streaming services like Apple give women the opportunity to tell more diverse stories and take on more substantial roles. Simply put, both actresses are very happy with the series and enjoy working together.
Still, Gossip Cop checked in with Aniston’s spokesperson, who confirms that the outlet’s report is completely untrue. That’s not surprising considering this isn’t the first time OK! has attempted to pit the two actresses against each other. In July, we called out the magazine for falsely claiming The Morning Show had ruined Aniston and Witherspoon’s friendship because they clashed on set. As far back as December 2017, when the series was first announced, the tabloid made up a story about Aniston and Witherspoon fighting over equal pay. The publication is just continuing the phony saga now that The Morning Show has debuted.
