Michael Douglas is not “wasting away” due to a cancer relapse. That’s the phony report a tabloid is pedaling this week. Gossip Cop has looked into the matter and we can debunk this false report.
The cover story in the Globe this week claims Douglas, a throat cancer survivor, is once again fighting the disease. A doctor who’s never treated the actor speculates in the article that he’s has lost “at least 28 pounds in just six months.” The same doctor, who, once again, has never treated Douglas, tells the magazine that the actor “might have six months or less to live” and is “fighting for his life.”
For good measure, the magazine throws in a quote from a so-called “insider,” who tells the publication, “There have been rumblings he wasn’t taking great care of himself a few months back. Now his appearance seems to confirm people’s worst suspicions – that the cancer has come back with a vengeance.”
Nothing about the story rings true. For starters, Douglas has been doing a lot of press lately in support of Season 2 of his Netflix series, The Kominsky Method. Not only does he look perfectly healthy, not “118 pounds” as the ridiculous article contends, but he hasn’t mentioned anything about a cancer relapse. The actor has never been shy about discussing his cancer battle in the past, and he would likely be open to talking about if it has returned.
It’s also worth adding that Douglas has two projects currently in production and both are voice roles. It seems pretty unlikely a man “fighting for his life” with throat cancer would be doing any acting roles, much less one’s that require countless hours of recording dialogue. The entire premise just doesn’t hold up to any scrutiny at all.
Meanwhile, Douglas’ own spokesperson denies the story and confirms that he’s perfectly health. It’s more likely that with his hit show on Netflix and his son Cameron’s memoir about to be released, the tabloid is hoping to capitalize on Douglas being in the news lately.
Not surprisingly, this isn’t the first time the Globe has tried to sell this fake narrative. In March, the same publication ran a false report claiming Douglas only had months to live after his cancer returned. That piece used much of the same talking points. The actor was said to be “gaunt,” “everyone is convinced that his cancer has returned” and “he may have no more than seven months to live.” That story was also completely baseless, as time has proven. Here we are exactly seven months after the tabloid said he had seven months to live, and he’s still perfectly fine.
