The Met Gala is fashion’s biggest night of the year, with designers working for months to create jaw-dropping gowns for celebrities to wear for just a few hours on the museum’s steps.
But anyone with deep enough pockets can own the dresses worn by Katie Holmes, Camila Mendes, Nicki Minaj and more to Monday’s “Camp: Notes on Fashion”-themed ball.
While the aforementioned celebs’ Prabal Gurung and Zac Posen looks were custom-designed with 2019’s flamboyant theme in mind, the designers are working with fashion retailer Moda Operandi to produce them en masse — but they don’t come cheap.
Holmes’ purple Posen gown, for example, retails for $12,990 and features 300 yards of multi-layered, hand-sewn tulle; its Zac Posen x GE Additive x Protolabs collar, shaped like palm leaves, takes more than 56 hours to 3D-print.
Minaj, meanwhile, wore a pink Gurung gown inspired by King Louis XIV that is now available for $49,995. The double-faced satin strapless dress includes hand-embroidered chandelier crystals and a silk taffeta tiered bouillon train and sleeves.
The most expensive look, however, was worn by Indian actress Deepika Padukone. Maxing out at $75,000, the pink jacquard strapless ballgown was custom-made with 408 Zac Posen x GE Additive x Protolabs plastic embroidery pieces, which took over 160 hours to make.
Also available from Zac Posen are “Ozark” actress Julia Garner’s ombré lamé gown ($20,000) and director Gia Coppola’s chartreuse satin dress ($8,990). Gurung’s other offerings include “Riverdale” actress Camila Mendes’ yellow feather gown ($25,995) and outfits worn by Halsey ($19,995) and Instagram’s Eva Chen ($18,995), as well as by Victoria’s Secret models Candice Swanepoel ($33,995) and Joan Smalls ($22,795).
And, for just a fraction of the price, Lady Gaga fans can tote their “Joanne”-style fedoras in the Brandon Maxwell acrylic hat box ($2,495) the star posed with during her dramatic four-outfit entrance.
