“Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek drops more than just clues on set.
The TV game show’s latest phenom, James Holzhauer, said the longtime host has a reputation for swearing off-camera.
“I learned that Alex Trebek has a potty mouth once the cameras aren’t recording,” Holzhauer said in an exclusive interview for the student newspaper of Shaler Area Middle School in Glenshaw, Pa.
The 34-year-old champion has had considerable opportunity for face time with Trebek — Holzhauer recently broke the second-longest winning streak in the show’s history.
Holzhauer came out on top again Thursday night, when he won his 21st game in a row.
Since stepping on set, Holzhauer has smashed through several show records, including most money won in a single regular-season game, when he took home $131,127.
Speaking to the school paper, Holzhauer shared some tips with his younger fans.
“I was an undisciplined student, but I set a goal for ‘Jeopardy!’ and really focused on achieving it,” Holzhauer told the student newspaper. “No one has ever played ‘Jeopardy!’ like I do, but I didn’t let that stop me from approaching the game the way I thought I should.”
The mom of Shaler seventh-grader Emma Lombardozzi, who interviewed Holzhauer, took to social media to applaud her daughter’s scoop.
“Very proud mama moment! Emma got to interview the Jeopardy champion for her school newspaper,” Jen Monroe Lombardozzi wrote on Facebook.
A rep for the school, located just north of Pittsburgh, didn’t respond to request for comment.
