The Met Gala is always one of the most star-studded events of the year, and 2019’s affair will be no different.
Back in October, it was announced that Lady Gaga, Harry Styles and Serena Williams would serve as co-hosts for the Anna Wintour-helmed event. However, the gala’s additional 183-person host committee also features plenty of boldfaced names.
Katy Perry, Chadwick Boseman, Lupita Nyong’o and Lena Waithe will all be part of the committee, according to The Hollywood Reporter, as will a trio of major Hollywood power couples: Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas, Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez and Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds.
Others on the committee include athletes like Venus Williams and Cam Newton as well as New York City philanthropists like Annette de la Renta and Sean and Alexandra Parker.
Cher, who is not a committee member but will have iconic stage costumes on display as part of the “Camp”-themed museum exhibit, is also expected to attend for the first time since 2015. It’s even possible that Meghan Markle could make an appearance to support her friend Serena.
“While the committee isn’t reflective of the Met Gala guest list, it’s certainly true that of late there has been a stronger presence of Hollywood names on it,” Anna Wintour told THR. “Obviously it helps that well-known names draw attention to not only the gala but also to the exhibition and to the museum; for all the starriness of the names on that one night, we never lose sight of the fact that the aim of the gala is to raise funds for the Costume Institute, so we can support its place in the cultural life of New York City and beyond.”
Tickets to this year’s event were reportedly priced at $35,000, while tables — which design houses like Louis Vuitton, Versace and Givenchy often buy out — are priced at $200,000 and $300,000.
